After several years of delay, due to decisions of the ultra
liberal government of former President Mauricio Macri, the new government of
President Alberto Fernandez will resume the mega hydroelectric project in the
Argentine Patagonia province of Santa Cruz. The project
will generate a power of 1,320 megawatts, which is greater than any
hydroelectric plant in Peru, for example.
According to a report by LaRouchePAC, (31.1.20), the
project contract with Chinese financing was signed since 2015, during the government
of President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner, through which China would provide
financing of $ 4.7 billion. The construction was in charge of the Chinese firm
Gezhouba Group Corp., which together with the Argentine firm Electroingenieria
formed the consortium UTE Represas Patagonia.
However, the following government halted the project by
arguing environmental problems, and then affirming that wind and solar sources
were better. In addition, the judiciary tried to prosecute the president of the
Argentine company, Gerardo Ferreyra, who was later released without any
accusation.
According to the Argentine press, Vice President Cristina
Fernández announced that at the end of the project, electricity generation in
the country will increase by 15%, thus reducing dependence on imported oil (for
thermoelectric plants).
Dear reader, any similarity in your country with Macri's
anti - energy policy…. It is no coincidence ...
Or what do you think?
